Dr. Hill may recommend a tooth extraction for an irreparably damaged tooth, to relieve impaction or crowding, or to prepare your mouth for restorative therapies. Rest assured that Dr. Hill will perform your tooth extraction with precision and care. Our team will attend to your needs and comfort during your treatment. Tooth extraction needn't be a painful or traumatic experience. If you suffer from dental anxiety, Dr. Hill offers oral conscious sedation to promote calm, restful dental treatment.
As mentioned above, a tooth extraction is often required to prepare your mouth for restorative therapies, to alleviate crowding, or remove an irreparably damaged tooth. Another common tooth extraction is the removal of wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars. Further explanations for reasons for a tooth extraction include:
Damaged Teeth- If a tooth is damaged beyond repair due to trauma or extensive decay, it may need to be removed.
Malpositioned/Nonfunctioning Teeth- Dr. Hill may suggest removing teeth that are malaligned or that are essentially useless. Other reasons may include teeth that may have a negative impact on your oral health.
Restorative Therapies- Restorative therapies such as braces may require tooth extraction to make needed space for improved teeth alignment.
Extra Teeth- If you have supernumerary teeth (extra teeth), Dr. Hill may recommend having them extracted to prevent other teeth from causing additional oral health problems.
Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most commonly performed extraction procedures used to help eliminate potential problems. Dentists usually suggest the removal of wisdom teeth in the adolescent years before the teeth are fully developed. Problems with wisdom teeth that are grounds for removal include infection, decay of adjacent teeth, bite interference and gum disease.
